Position: Assistant Expenditure Accountant
Reports to: Finance Manager
Dept/ Function: Finance
Based at: Head Office
Grade: MT4
Principle Accountabilities
• To ensure that all specific overheads and/or capital
costs are accounted for on a timely basis and in line with appropriate
accounting standards.
• To ensure that all expected future costs are
captured in the Budget and Forecast process.
• To challenge costs throughout the business and
identify cost efficiency opportunities, ensuring profits remain maximised.
• To calculate and report on expected variances to
plan and feed into the Financial Expenditure Manager, for inclusion in the
weekly P&L prepared by the Business Planning team.
• To liaise with budget holders, through the
production of cost reviews, to ensure that they are fully informed and
accountable for any costs that they are responsible for.
• To produce accurate variance analysis on a
monthly basis to explain movements from Budget, Latest View and prior year.
• To assist in evolving the reporting and P&L
architecture to ensure it meets the changing needs of the business.
• Identification of opportunities for process and
control improvements across the department and other business areas.
• Production of appropriate balance sheet
reconciliations for review by the Financial Expenditure Manager.
• To build solid working relationships with key
stakeholders across relevant business areas.
• To assist the Financial Expenditure Manager in any
ad hoc analysis relating to the Financial Expenditure team.
• Integrate on going CIMA studies into the role to
gain the experience needed to complete the CIMA study log.
• To adhere to the finance study policy, ensuring
all CIMA forms are completed and handed to the Financial Expenditure Manager in
a timely manner.
• To focus on personal development in order to
contribute to a skilled and knowledgeable team.
• To attend Finance Academy presentations by the
wider finance teams to understand their roles and how the teams interrelate.

Primary Objective

Skills/ Qualifications/ Experience
• Graduate (2.1 or above finance related degree) / Part Qualified
ACA/ACCA/CIMA qualification.
• Academically strong, highly numerate.
• Strong interpersonal skills.
• Basic financial modelling skills.
• Ability to deliver to deadlines and manage changing priorities in a fast
pacedenvironment.
• Ability to perform well as part of a team.
• Effective time management to meet deadlines at work whilst studying

WRITING PROJECT - How to write better English
WRITING PROJECT:
A free 10-week course in how to write
better English
Open to any MMU-enrolled student who
would like to improve the way they write.
Starts w/c 28th April

Now
in its second year, the massively popular Writing Project will run again in Term 3.
It is an
English language support scheme, established to help students improve their
written work and therefore their grades and job prospects.
It covers
academic and non-academic areas and will focus mainly on style, punctuation,
grammatical accuracy, organisation and how to paraphrase and summarise
effectively.
It will
run multiple times on all campuses during Term 3.
There is no credit attached to the course, and no formal assessment. However, students will do exercises in writing during the weekly one-and-a-half-hour face-to-face sessions and for homework, and will be provided with plenty of feedback on their writing as the course progresses.

This year, we are
offering the course as a ‘Fast-track’ over five weeks.

NEW MMU PEER MENTOR PILOT:
Are
you interested in being part of a new
MMU Peer Mentor Pilot, developing skills, enhancing your CV and helping new
students on the Economics course?
Details are outlined below but
why not come along and find out about the scheme next

We are looking for current year 1 and
2 students to provide peer mentor support to the Economics students joining us
for the next academic year 2014-2015.
The idea is to support students from
pre-induction through the induction and the first two weeks of term. You will
be responsible for providing support for new students on a 1:20 ratio of mentor
to student.
Applications open
through Jobs4Students from March 26th until April 9th2014. Students will be required to apply
for jobs using the application form attached and to attend three days of
training plus a team-building event.
Through engaging with the peer
mentoring support scheme you will be developing an array of skills which are
applicable for your future careers.
Engagement in the scheme is something
to make you stand out above the other graduates when applying for posts in the
near future!
The model that has been developed
works in conjunction with MMU Futures and Jobs4Students
to provide students with futures points (bronze
and silver) for training and payment for the e-mentoring and face-to-face
sessions in induction and early weeks.
These are the training dates for the
position:

training events to assist you in developing the peer mentoring support
materials for your workshops.

Students will deliver 5 hours of
workshops to students covering various areas e.g. finance, living away from
home, MMU great, campus tour. These sessions will be developed during the
three-day training event with support from relevant University support services
and lecturers.
Week 2 and 3
Students to deliver 2 x 1 hour
session for these two weeks.
