Our aim is to create a fun and safe space for members of the LGBT community, to provide support and opportunities to socialise with other members of the community, and to carry out campaigns both on and off campus. We also aim to support and co-operate with charities and organisations within Greater Manchester. 

We have plans in place for a meet-and-greet, a quiz, a tour of Manchester's world renowned Gay Village, and coffee mornings to usher in the new academic year.

Worthwhile Week Campaign - The Union MMU

We're running this campaign to highlight all the amazing things you can do at The Union and around campus, to make your spare time away from studying more worthwhile.

We're also working with the University to make sure Wednesday afternoons are kept free for those taking part in BUCS sport.

From meeting new people and gaining skills to boosting confidence and being work ready, there are loads of great reasons to take part in something outside your course.


It`s Ok To Talk About Mental Health

It’s OK is a campaign that aims to tackle the stigma surrounding mental health, promote and improve support services at Manchester Met, and remind every student that It’s OK to talk about your mental health.University life comes with great experiences as well as new challenges and complications. Anyone can experience mental health difficulties. Everyone’s experience is unique and should be respected and valued.We want to hear your stories and create a positive campaign with a big impact. We want to ensure that you get the support you need and never feel ashamed to ask for help, or ask questions about mental health.

This session will focus on the importance of effective leadership for project and event management, and is being delivered by Paul Roberts – a founding director of Fifthday (www.fifthday.com) one of the world’s leading and most innovative project management consultancies.

Paul will discuss the nature of projects, and the importance of their effective leadership and management.

This session will focus on the importance of ethics in the world of business. Using topical case studies, we will explore why ethical leadership is critical to business success and how graduate employers look for candidates to demonstrate ethical awareness in their decision-making and problem solving.

Professor Julia Clarke is Dean of the Faculty of Business and Law at MMU, and prior to moving into higher education worked for one of the big four accountancy firms in Manchester where she specialised in corporate taxation. Julia is a founding member of the Centre for Excellence in Teaching and Learning in Inter-Disciplinary Ethics based at the University of Leeds, and has published in the areas of corporate social reporting, business ethics and business education.

What is being offered?
We have year-long placement opportunities in locations across the UK. You will be a member of the professional body titled the ‘Government Operational Research Service’, and have the opportunity to gain professional and technical skills whilst working on some of the most interesting and pertinent problems currently facing the country.
You will be working at the heart of central government and your conclusions will help shape national policy that will affect millions of people.

Our analytical teams cover a broad range of remits from dealing with resource allocation, workforce planning, forecasting, performance measurement, and strategic planning. Previous student projects have included:
o Informing impact assessments to provide balanced and objective views of the costs and benefits of policies;
o Designing a pilot study to test the impact of a new policy to increase the likelihood of unemployed people entering work;
o Analysing the impact of customer behaviour to identify different types of customers we interact with.

What’s in it for me?

You will have the opportunity to learn the skills required for professional life whilst working for organisations ranked in the top 10 graduate employers in the country as rated by the graduates themselves. The work will be high profile and you might find yourself working with requests from Ministers and other senior officials. You will:

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for bright, forward-thinking students from numerate subject areas such as mathematics, physics, operational research, computer science, statistics and engineering.

Being highly numerate is only the starting point for our student analysts; we expect you to build on your technical skills and work towards successfully influencing policy decisions by presenting your analysis effectively in meetings, producing written reports and giving oral presentations.

We take on students who are interested in learning modelling, statistical and computing skills and have the drive and personality to work effectively both on their own and in a team.
