AAT - Summer 2014 Workshop update

Workshops for those final year A & F students wishing to take the AAT
qualification will be available as follows:
The first briefing session will be delivered to all those who have expressed an interest in completing this qualification as follows:

Date: Wednesday 28th May
Time 11 am-12 noon
Location– NBS Lecture Theatre - G33
 
The workshops will then be running over a two-week period week commencing 2nd June and week commencing 9th June - with 4 compulsory workshops in total as follows:


Workshop dates week 1       :   Tues 3rd June 2014 – 10-2 pm (Rooms TBC)
                                                   :   Thurs 5th June 2014 – 10-2pm
Workshop dates week 2       :   Mon 9th June 2014 – 10-2pm
                                                   :   Weds 11th June 2014 – 10-2pm


These dates can not be changed and it is important to note that if you are not available to attend any of the dates then you are not able to complete the
course.

the AAT prior to attending the briefing on Wednesday 28th May by logging into:

The total cost of student registration is £123 (£39 Admin and £84 Membership)

The case study is in electronic version and you need to activate your account  

prior to accessing it.
The briefing on the 28th May will explain in more detail what is required of you
and you will be given a handbook and material in order to prepare for the 1st supervised workshop on the 3th June at 10am.
A brief overview of what will be happening in the workshops and a few
important things to do before the workshops start is as follows:
  • Register with AAT(Cost implication)  and pay MMU tuition fee £200 to MMU finance John Dalton building deadline 30th May
  • email f.mcewen@mmu.ac.uk with AAT number to enable the assessment
    to be assigned to you by 30th May
  • 1st Day workshop 3rd June 10 am– 4 hour session with allocated supervisor reviewing the case study and preparation for report writing
  • 2nd Day workshop  5th June– 4 hour session with allocated supervisor
    drafting report and uploading work in progress draft report
  • 3rd Day workshop 9th June – 4 hour session with allocated supervisor considering internal controls and recommendations – upload 2nd wip
    draft report
  • 4th Day workshop 11th June – 4 hours with supervisor finalising report
    with cost benefit analysis – upload final report

The UK India Education and Research Initiative (UKIERI) started in April 2006 with the aim of enhancing educational links between India and the UK. In the last five years, UKIERI has played a pivotal role in establishing a step change in the educational relations between the two countries. In recognition of the substantial achievements and building on the success of this initiative, the programme has been extended for 5 years from 2011 to 2016. The event runs on 2nd & 3rd June at the Business School.

Applications are encouraged from all students and graduates of MMU who want to increase their enterprise skills or to explore the option of working for themselves.

This inspirational 2 day course runs annually here at MMU and this year is themed around Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.
 
Attendees are invited to work with like-minded people who share enthusiasm for enterprise. They are inspired by real entrepreneurs who will share their entrepreneurial journeys and who will support students in exploring innovative ideas.   Attendees carry their learning throughout the two days and are equipped with skills to start exploring their own ideas to start a business.

The following vacancy is now available.
 
General Role Description:
Work along side business unit managers to:-

  • Assist in the commercial aspects of contract and client management of both Outsourced contracts and major projects
  • Take an entrepreneurial approach to finding and prioritising (with BU managers) those issues which require commercial support
  • Take a hands on approach to supporting resolution of commercial issues where appropriate, or implementing and managing appropriate resource for the same. Ownership of issues to the point of resolution is essential.
  • Manage day to day level negotiations with clients and service providers

  • Support in the negotiation of larger scale commercial changes to key accounts and projects

  • Support the development of new propositions

  • Liaise with internal legal teams to support BU managers on the more complex aspects of contract review and service propositions

  • Engage in the standard project review process, in particular supporting the commercial management of change and variation on major projects

  • Conduct ad hoc contract compliance reviews

  • Support key compliance processes for the north including liability approval requests

  • Report progress on key commercial issues to and receive instruction from the regions South Operations Board
Key requirements

  • Ability to manage clients in a pragmatic and personable way

  • Strong comprehension skills, and understanding of fundamental contract mechanisms commonly found in service contracts
  • Understanding of cost behaviour, and ability to quickly ascertain relevant drivers of cost and profit in given scenarios
  • Ability to work under low levels of supervision

  • Strong ability in general management, and task management
 
  • Key focus on outcomes and business objectives – as this is generally the measure of success in an organisation such as Capita.

Opportunity to Submit Papers - UEL UNDERGRADUATE CONFERENCE

Undergraduates from the University of East London, in partnership with the European Association of Development Research & Training Institutes (EADI), are pleased to invite you to submit* your paper to the University’s third student led undergraduate conference for development.

Have you just finished your undergraduate dissertation or project? Are you proud of a piece of your degree work? Are you thinking of postgraduate study or just starting on a Masters programme? Then submit an abstract to International Development Student Conference at UEL!
 
*There is no fee for submission of papers or attendance at the conference.
 
 
Why should I attend?
If you have never been to an academic conference before, and never presented your work in a conference setting, then this is a great opportunity to get some experience and find out how it all works. This is a conference organised by undergraduate students, for undergraduate students and we want to hear about the research and work you have been doing.
 
Who can submit a paper?
Students from a wide variety of disciplines including: anthropology, international development and development studies, international politics and international relations, history, sociology and more. We also welcome papers from undergraduate students and students graduating in 2014.
 
When and where is the conference?
The conference will be held at the Docklands Campus of University of East London, UK on Saturday 8th November. It is a one day event including an evening reception following the conference. However, on Friday 7th there will be a welcoming reception for those able to attend.
 
What happens at the conference?
Successful entrants will be given the unique opportunity to debate their work in a public forum, receive feedback from academic scholars, interact with publishers and field leaders and meet students from diverse universities and network with a variety of NGOs.
 
This open conference will centre on subjects pertaining to International Development and International Politics.  All participants will be presented with a certificate confirming their attendance and an online journal will be produced presenting the top papers.
 
What are the paper submission guidelines?
We welcome written papers as well as other forms of presentation such as short documentaries and photo exhibitions. All accepted works will be presented, having been reviewed by a panel consisting of academic experts and publishers.
Undergraduate papers in the region of 2000-5000 words will be accepted. We welcome coursework and other papers. A maximum word limit of 6000 words is in place for those who would like to submit their dissertations.
Papers should address one or more of the following themes.


·          War, Conflict and Migration
·          Intersecting inequality in Society (including gender, age, class, ethnicity)
·          Governance, Institutions and State Building
·          Civil Society, Social Movements and Grassroots Organizations
·          Population Growth, Resources, Environment
