What's on in October?

Friday 2nd

11am-12 noon I don’t know what I want to do when I leave uni 3.06 Sandra Burslem Building

Not sure what options are open to you after you graduate? Need help in deciding what’s best for you? You’re not the only one! It’s never too early to start planning your next steps, this session will help you to explore your options, research your next steps and improve your future career options.

Monday 5th October

6.30pm-10pm Deloitte Autumn Careers Evening M1 3DG

By attending this event you will have access to the following:

Meeting with Deloitte employees from across the business to find out exactly what is on offer to you as a student

Useful hints and tips on our selection process

Networking and meeting alumni from your university who now work at Deloitte

Learning more about our business to help you establish the best career path for you.

Tuesday 6th

11am-12 noon Summer Internships 3.06 Business School

Make the most of your summer break, boost your CV, and gain work experience by doing an internship. Attend this session to explore where to find internships and when to apply, the support available for applications and interviews, and how to make the most of your internship.

Wednesday 7th

2pm-3pm How to present like a professional 3.03 Business School

Presenting is a key skill, you may be asked to present as part of your course or at an interview or assessment centre - this can be daunting for everyone! Get top tips for how to prepare for and structure a professional presentation, deal with any nerves, and manage and impress your audience.

Thursday 8th

10am-11.30am How to write winning CVs 2.02 Sandra Burslem

Ever wondered what the difference is between okay and winning CVs? This workshop explores different CV formats and covering letters, and the key qualities employers look for that will make you stand out from the crowd and bag an interview.

Tuesday 13th

1pm-1.30pm Careers fairs: why, where and how to prepare 3.18 Business School

Graduate Recruitment Fairs are an opportunity to meet employers offering a range of roles ‘face-to-face’. Before attending you need to do your homework to get the most out of them and impress employers. Find out when and where the fairs take place, how to prepare and how to sell your skills.

2.15pm-3.15pm Networking: building your personal brand 3.15 Business School

We all network everyday with friends and colleagues, at events and via social media. Networking can be key to identifying jobs that are not advertised so it is important to know how and when to network confidently to create opportunities for yourself and make those essential contacts.

5pm-7pm JET (Japan Exchange and Teaching) Programme G35 Business School

The majority of JET Programme participants work as Assistant Language Teachers (ALTs), assisting with English teaching in schools across Japan. As an ALT your role will be to ASSIST Japanese Teachers of English rather than lead classes on your own.

Wednesday 14th

3pm-4pm Applying for UCAS Teacher Training Lecture Theatre 7 Geoffrey Manton

Find out what admissions tutors want from a personal statement and how UCAS applications work for school direct and university-based PGCE places. Whether you want to apply for primary or secondary level, this workshop will help you put together a great teacher training application.

1pm-2pm Going Global: international careers 1.24 Business School

If you are considering working abroad, or you are an international student returning home, attend this workshop to access resources to help you find work; find information on eligibility to work and differences in the application process; and discover language/cultural variances.

Thursday 22nd

10am-11am Amazing Applications: net that job 3.03 Business School

The variety of application forms and processes used by employers means that you need specific knowledge to make your application stand out. Get insider know-how on how applications are assessed and tips to ensure you sell yourself to secure that interview.

Wednesday 28th


Showing a potential employer that you really understand, and have an interest in, their business and sector is essential when making yourself stand out. Preparing is simpler than you may think. Learn about the resources available to you at MMU and how to use them to your advantage.


Friday 30th


The creative industries differ from other professional sectors in the ways they communicate with and recruit graduates. Discover the role that networking plays in securing employment and freelance commissions together with a range of possible formats and visual options for your CV.
