Your Charity Contributions - Thank You / Monday Midday Deadline

Hi,

You have made an absolutely amazing contribution this week and it is very much appreciated by BigChange(Mcr)

If anyone still wishes to donate towards the appeal for items for Christmas care packages for Big Change (Mcr), the charity are asking for men`s toothbrushes, deodorant, towels and other similar items.

If you would prefer to make a donation to this, or the toy collection (a toy to value of £10) for Wood Street Mission, please bring these to room 4.39 BS until Monday 11th December  (Midday) and we will ensure they get to these charities.

#McrMetProud: Graffiti wall painting events taking place this week

What makes you #McrMetProud? Is it the University’s fantastic facilities, the first-class teaching or maybe it’s the wide-range of student support services?

There’s certainly a lot to be proud of at Manchester Metropolitan and we would like to share what you think makes the University special through some live ‘graffiti wall’ painting sessions taking place on campus next week.

How can I get involved?

We would like you visit the live ‘graffiti wall’ painting sessions across campus next week and tell us what makes you proud to be at Manchester Metropolitan.

The best answers will then be painted onto our ‘graffiti wall’ by one of our very own Art students. The finished ‘graffiti walls’ will then be displayed across the University throughout January.

The live ‘graffiti wall’ painting sessions will be taking place in the following buildings next week:

·        Monday, 11 December: Business School – 11.30 – 13.30

·        Tuesday, 12 December: Brooks Building – 11.30 – 13.30

·        Thursday, 14 December: Geoffrey Manton – 11.30 – 13.30

Everyone is invited to take part, but if the ‘graffiti wall’ activity is not taking place in your building, please don’t let that stop you coming along and sharing what makes you feel proud.

And if you are unable to make the events, you can send your ‘What makes you feel #McrMetProud’ answer to internalcomms@mmu.ac.uk and we will pass your feedback on to our student artists.

Get involved and tell us what makes you proud to be at Manchester Metropolitan!

Economics Students - Friday 5th January 2018
Institute of Fiscal Studies TalksFocus on the policy implications of research carried out at the institute of interest to undergraduates in economics and related disciplines
The Institute for Fiscal Studies is holding a day of talks on the 5 January 2018 on issues in public economics of interest to undergraduates in economics and related disciplines. The aim will be to focus on the policy implications of research carried out at the institute. If you're a member of staff at an Institute please forward this on to anyone that may be interested in this event.

The IFS is a research institute that provides high quality economic analysis independent of government, political party or any other vested interest. We look at a wide variety of public policy issues, from productivity growth to poverty reduction, and from promoting employment to ensuring sound public finances.
Our focus is on careful modelling of individual, household and firm behaviour, combining cutting-edge empirical analysis with detailed understanding of policy practicalities. We always strive to communicate our findings in a clear and comprehensible way.
We have been asked to deliver similar talks at Oxford and Cambridge for a number of years as part of their public economics programmes. The aim of this event is to make them available to a wider audience.
Topics covered include:
  • Higher Education Funding
  • Poverty and Inequality
  • Labour Supply and Taxation
  • Early Childhood Development Policies
  • Childcare
  • Pensions and Retirement
We will also have a special Q&A session on working at the IFS.
There will be no charge to attend this event; light refreshments will be provided but delegates will need to make their own lunch arrangements.

To book onto this event and for further information please see link
Best wishes,

Do you want an internship this summer?

Do you want an internship this summer?

To be in with a chance to work at npower this summer, apply to be part of our ‘npowering weekend’ competition.

On this all-expenses paid weekend away, we’ll put you up for the weekend and show you a city break with a big difference.

Split into teams, you and your fellow undergraduates will be set a series of challenging exercises to earn points; whilst allowing you to explore Birmingham and learn more about npower and the energy industry as a whole. Think ‘The Apprentice’ with an npower twist. The winning team, with the most points scored from these challenges, will receive a prize.

Not only that, but throughout the weekend we will be watching you flex your skillset and will also be deciding who will win an internship with us!

How do I secure a place on this fantastic weekend?

We’ve deliberately kept our process short and simple, and the best bit is that we don’t look at your grades or university to determine whether you’re good enough – it’s all based on your personality and behaviour.

Check out the brochure to give you an idea of the process.

The deadline for applications is 7th January 2018.

If you want to find out more about the weekend, join our online chat, or speak to a mentor, please visit: https://www.npowerjobs.com/graduates/npowering-weekend

For information about the npower Graduate Schemes see: https://www.npowerjobs.com/graduates
