PRIME DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
• Support investment team through data analysis and quantitative and qualitative research of investment themes and macro economics.
• Inter department liaison and contact point for investment department output.
• Timely production of appropriate reports and presentations.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
Most likely to be a sandwich course student working towards a bachelors degree with an analytical discipline and highly numerate with strong IT skills.
An interest in analysis, maths, IT, marketing, finance and investment along with proven self starter - able to work autonomously, though equally as collaborative team player.
Presentation skills

ADDITIONAL DESIRABLE SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
Highly IT literate – excel, powerpoint etc
Strong analytical skills
Any kind of part time job

House of Commons – Social Statistics Research Assistant

 
The Social and General Statistics Section is one of eight teams providing a specialist, politically impartial information and briefing service for MPs, their staff, committees and staff of the House

The section produces a wide range of material and other services, including confidential answers to enquiries from Members of Parliament and briefing on legislation and topical subjects. These are made available to MPs on the Parliamentary intranet and in some cases, its public website. There are nine researchers in the Social and General Statistics Section who specialise in broad subject areas. These include statistics on health, social benefits, pensions, transport, population, elections, agriculture, education, housing, defence, energy and the environment.

The Section’s work covers the UK and other countries and is directly related to the Parliamentary and news agenda. The Section typically deals with 300 to 400 requests from MPs a month, in addition to other tasks.
 

The purpose of the Social Statistics Research Assistant (Sandwich Placement) is to: Assist statisticians in their day to day research work Participate in research projects at the direction of their line manager Effectively communicate and liaise with MPs and their staff Other duties as necessary

The Person

Candidates will be studying towards an Economics, Politics or Social Sciences or other relevant degree with an integrated Statistics module. Candidates must be studying on a recognised four year sandwich placement course.

The successful candidate will have the following skills/experience:

•Ability to deal with numerical information and spreadsheets
•Good communication skills; written and oral
•Proven organisational skills

Deadline Weds 8th Feb - GES 2017 Summer Vacation Placement Scheme


The Government Economic Service (GES) will begin accepting applications for the GES centrally-run summer vacation student placement scheme for 2017 on
Wednesday 8 February at 10.00am.

The placements are aimed at economics students who are seriously considering a career in the GES after graduation. The list of participating Departments, job descriptions and a Word version of the application form have been published on the website today.

The opening date for applications is Wednesday 8 February at 10.00am.
 
The scheme will close as soon as sufficient applications have been received, and this will be notified on the GES website. It is therefore in the students’ interests to submit their applications as soon as possible after the opening date. Applications submitted after the scheme has closed will not be accepted, nor will those submitted before the opening date/time.
 
Applicants not studying for a recognised sandwich degree course must have permission from their university to undertake a year placement.
 
Students will be asked to provide a reference from their university economics tutor, confirming their suitability, at the invitation to interview stage.

Although we will not begin accepting applications until Wednesday 8 February, more information about the scheme itself has been published on our website https://www.gov.uk/guidance/how-to-apply-for-a-government-economic-service-summer-vacation-placement today so that students will be able to prepare before the scheme opens.

Job Description

 

Job Title               Financial Controller

 

Reports to            Board of Directors

 

Job Purpose         To ensure that the business of Brocket Hall is effectively controlled and accounted for.

 
 
Key Responsibilities 
 
·         Accuracy and timeliness of monthly accounts supported by a fully reconciled balance sheet;
·         Supervision of the Accounts Department;
·         Timely completion and submission of tax returns;
·         Actively working with management team to deliver planned results;
·         Production of plans, budgets and forecasts;
·         Review of financial procedures and controls on an on-going basis to ensure the smooth running of the business;
·         Financial control and reporting of capital projects;
·         Provision of accurate, informative and independent accounting/financial reporting to management and the Board of Directors;
·         Training & development of Accounting personnel;
·         Ensure strict compliance with local fiscal legislation;
·         Oversight of purchasing;
·         IT systems implementation and management.
 

Candidate Profile

 
·         Experienced financial controller in the hospitality industry;
·         CGMA, AAT or HOSPA qualified;
·         Hardworking, self motivated and prepared to take a hands on role;
·         Proven supervisory and communication skills;
·         Excellent oral, written communication and interpersonal skills;
·         Persistent attitude when faced with obstacles;
·         Commercially aware;
·         Familiarity with “Uniform System of Accounts”;
·         Demonstrate good analytical qualities;
·         Used to reporting to strict deadlines;
·         Able to work with management team in a constructive and effective way;
·         Approachable and responsive to the needs of others;
·         Experience of working with both professional advisors and other non-financial managers;
·         Diligent and self-starting;
·         Ability to speak Mandarin is desirable.
 
 
 
This job description cannot be exhaustive due to the complexity of the multi-faceted responsibilities of the position.  Therefore the jobholder may be required from time to time to carry out additional tasks as requested by the Company.
