AFE Society’s February Stars of the Month WINNERS & NOMINEES

AFE Society’s February Stars of the Month WINNERS & NOMINEES

The Stars of The Month is now back in full swing, and we would like to give a huge congratulations to all the students who were nominated for Stars of The Month!

 Well done to our two winners in February;  Imogen Bullen & Anthony Henry;

Our first congratulations goes to Imogen Bullen (Level 5 Accounting and Finance).

Paul Hunt tells us why Imogen deserved this recognition, ‘... Imogen has always gone about her studies in a quiet and diligent fashion.  She is incredibly bright and very driven, but also modest and not one to stand out from the crowd. I was completely blown away recently by the development she shown during a presentation she gave as part of a group assignment. Imogen is keen to put the technical knowledge gained from her degree to good use in her part time job at a bank.  It is so encouraging to see students that possess this kind of attitude.  A brilliant student, with an incredibly bright future ahead of her, she can achieve anything that she wants!”

We are also excited to announce that Anthony Henry was chosen as our second Star of The Month (Level 5 Banking and Finance).

We spoke to Trevor Williamson about why Anthony was nominated. “Anothony is very pro-active in terms of networking to raise his profile to boost his placement and future prospects. He took the initiative to join the Personal Finance Society as a student member and attended a regional meeting of this professional body. I was not surprised when he was short-listed for interview for a Financial Planning firm, where he was successful at interview and now looks forward to gaining some real-world experience. Anthony’s politeness, quiet self-confidence, a willingness to work hard and an eagerness to soak up every learning opportunity, alongside the work experience he will gain, will stand him in good stead in the future. Full credit goes to Anthony for taking these initiatives to boost his CV, his personal and work-based skills, and his employment prospects. The future is bright.”

Becoming a Star of The Month is a huge achievement, serving as a credit of your commitment, hard work and dedication to succeed. All four students have been invited to a dinner at the end of the year with all the stars, Professor Chris Pyke and the Faculty Dean - a great opportunity to network and once again, stand out of the crowd!

CONGRATULATIONS IMOGEN AND ANTHONY FOR BEING OUR STARS OF THE MONTH!!!!!

 We received 12 nominations including the following;

 Our first congratulations goes to Matthew Ward. “ Matt recently completed a voluntary review of charity financial statements with minimal assistance, and submitted these on time and to an appropriate standard. Matt has been an academic superstar this year and has managed to secure a graduate position with a big 4 firm. He is a pleasant and confident student who is willing to take on extra work to improve, and I’m sure he’ll be a great success in the future…”

We would also like to congratulate Nuria Checa Hernandez. “Nuria has demonstrated an excellent attitude to her studies. I am really impressed by the way Nuria manages to raise a very young family and yet is still an ever-present at my lectures, with a broad smile on her face and eager to learn and develop.  The maturity and dignity with which she overcomes obstacles is a lesson to everyone. Nuria can achieve any goals she sets herself, and she is a real pleasure to teach!”

Voileta Pranauskaite was also nominated as a Star of the Month. “Since the beginning of the academic year, Violeta has approached her studies with enthusiasm and determination that makes her an absolute pleasure to teach.  She works incredibly hard, whilst also managing to attend workshops and guest lectures.  The way Violeta engages with her subject demonstrates great maturity – this genuine desire to learn is a great example of how the university can be enjoyable and incredibly rewarding.”

Anna Zammit was another one of our nominees. “Anna tries very hard to make the most of every opportunity that comes her way. Anna’s approach to University is incredibly refreshing! She is one of the nicest people on the course who demonstrates a true team ethic and is desperate to learn.”

Another congratulations to Craig Tilbury. “I covered a class and Craig listened attentively, made meaningful contributions and even said ‘thank you’ at the end. I can’t tell you how refreshing that was! Craig sets a great example to other students and was a pleasure to teach.”

Christy Hurley was another nominee! “Christy has overcome so much personal adversity it would be negligent not to nominate her. I can’t think of anyone who has strived more and this year! Though Christy is very amiable, she has a core of steel running through her and I don’t think that life will find her wanting if it challenges her. She has been extraordinary and is someone you would really like to succeed.”

We would also like to congratulate Daniel Potts. “Daniel has shown a real commitment to his studies. His attendance has been excellent and his performance in assignments shows a desire to achieve, which has led him to securing a placement. Daniel works well in teams as well as being individually self-motivated. Daniel has worked as a student mentor and volunteers to support charity events. Daniel is polite, courteous and hard working.”

Pringle Gulzar was another nominee. “Pringle is a real joy to teach. Pringle has stood out as a model student, committed, hard-working and eager to improve. Pringle’s attendance is excellent and has shown improvement in academic skills as he progresses through the degree. He has worked as a student mentor and supported charity events. Pringle is polite, courteous and hard-working, and is an asset to the degree programme.”

Our final congratulations to Polly Rees. “Polly is an extremely committed student and readily volunteers to support the department. Polly is a student representative and behaves courteously and professionally at all times- feedback has even lead to changes to benefit students. Polly has secured a placement with the Government Economic Service; an excellent achievement and opportunity to progress further. Polly is a dream to have on the degree programme!”

Being nominated as a Star of The Month is a huge achievement in itself, serving as a credit of your commitment, hard work and dedication to succeed. We hope that this nomination motivates you to keep standing out of the crowd!
