final year students, Welcome to your update on all things employability and what's on over the next three weeks before the half term at MMU! It’s March and though we are nearing the end of term there are still plenty of opportunities and events for you to improve your employability, reflecting the hard work we put in to improve your professional development and career prospects in many different ways. Wednesday 9th: How to write winning CVs 1:00pm – 2:00pm Room 3.21, Business School Building Ever wondered what the difference is between okay and winning CVs? This workshop explores different CV formats and covering letters, and the key qualities employers look for that will make you stand out from the crowd and bag an interview. Wednesday 9th: Considering Teaching? 1:00pm – 2:00pm Room 4.07A, Business School Building Whether you a considering a primary, secondary or college-level teaching career, there are a number of different ways to train. Find out more about the qualifications and experience required, the various routes into teaching and how to get essential work experience. Wednesday 9th: Latitude Law Careers Workshop: Immigration & Nationality Law 1:30pm – 2:30pm, Room 3.20 Business School Join fast-growing immigration & nationality law firm Latitude Law of Manchester for an exciting, interactive careers workshop that will give you an insight into the life & work of an immigration lawyer. Wednesday 9th: Creative Enterprise CafĂ© 2:00pm – 4:30pm Room BZ403 Benzie Building, Manchester School of Art If you are considering going freelance or starting your own business, don’t miss out on this must attend event and get expert tips for all aspects of business start-up in the creative industries. Friday 11th: Designing your CV for the creative, communication and media industries 10:00am – 11:30am, Room 338, Geoffrey Manton Building The creative industries differ from other professional sectors in the ways they communicate with and recruit graduates. Discover the role that networking plays in securing employment and freelance commissions together with a range of possible formats and visual options for your CV. Friday 11th: Video interviews: give your best performance! 11:15am – 11:45pm, Room 3.07, Business School Building Video interviews are becoming an increasingly popular assessment tool for employers – attend this workshop to ensure you know how they work and how you can prepare. Learn more about the video interview process, get top tips to impress and discover where you can practise online. Friday 11th: How to present like a professional 2:00pm – 3:00pm, Room 3.20, Business School Building Presenting is a key skill, you may be asked to present as part of your course or at an interview or assessment centre - this can be daunting for everyone! Get top tips for how to prepare for and structure a professional presentation, deal with any nerves, and manage and impress your audience. Monday 14th: Find that Graduate Job 1:00pm – 1:30pm Room 1.22, Business School Building The workshop that leaves no stone unturned in giving you the tools to find that graduate job! Improve your chances of finding a job by discovering where to look for vacancies, how to find unadvertised positions and how to market yourself effectively to employers. Monday 14th: Networking: build your personal brand 3:00pm – 4:00pm Room 1.22, Business School Building We all network everyday with friends and colleagues, at events and via social media. Networking can be key to identifying jobs that are not advertised so it is important to know how and when to network confidently to create opportunities for yourself and make those essential contacts. Wednesday 16th: How to write winning CVs 12:00pm – 1:00pm Room 3.20, Business School Building Ever wondered what the difference is between okay and winning CVs? This workshop explores different CV formats and covering letters, and the key qualities employers look for that will make you stand out from the crowd and bag an interview. Thursday 17th: Use LinkedIn to kick-start your career 11:00am – 12:30pm, Room 4.05, Business School Building. This interactive session shows you how to develop and improve your own LinkedIn profile, whether you are an active user or new to the site; as well as offering tips on using LinkedIn to network effectively, increase your connections and link to employers. Careers & Employability Pop-Ups, 1pm-3pm Did you know that the Careers & Employability Service pop-ups provide an opportunity for you to engage with the careers team (where they provide advice, careers information and CV checks) from pop-up stands? Why not visit these pop-ups?
