Hi everyone,
We just wanted to say a BIG THANK YOU to all who
supported the AFE Charity Boat Race again this year, including our many
students and staff rowers, and all who made and bought cakes, donated money and
gave their time to take part.
Since Friday lunchtime we have raised a respectable £201.25
in cake sales and rowing fees for Francis House Children`s Hospice.
We have added this to the £159.25 raised at our last Boat
Race event, and will be sending £360.50 to the charity on behalf of all the students and
staff on the Accounting, Finance & Economics Department at Manchester
Metropolitan University. The event was great fun and everyone enjoyed
themselves immensely.
The Winning Team were `The Superstars` made up
of Tom Hindmarch, Vivien Sheard, Sarah Yates and Daniel Sheratte. They win our
engraved AFE Charity Boat Race Trophy 2017 (the size of a large eggcup. It`s
tiny!) with a great time of 30.06 minutes over the 6.8km. Well done!!!
Our staff and student teams made up of Chris Pyke, Matthew
Gobey, Marcin Wozniak, Yasar Zahid, Kat Werner, Anest Williams, Bea Carter,
Sikander Riaz, Sam Thistlewaite, Toria Byrne, Alice Pugh, Richard Watson and
Shaun Chua, all put in a great display, with Team 2 (Toria, Alice,
Richard & Shaun) coming a very close second.
Special Mentions go to Jack
Christian, and Kat Werner`s husband Mark
who took on their challenge singlehandedly with incredible times of
33.11 and 34.36 respectively. Thank you everyone for buying lots of cake,
making the afternoon a lot of fun, and helping to support a great cause!
Many thanks again,
Clare, Sophie & Anest
