VOLUNTEERING OPPORTUNITIES

With a chill in the air, there is no denying that winter is here and Christmas is just around the corner. This season can be a difficult time for vulnerable groups of people, and there are loads of opportunities and events you can get involved with. This month, we're highlighting how you can support homelessness charities and the elderly.

Make a difference
Charities will already be feeling the impact of the cold weather and need volunteers more than ever. We have a range of roles with charities like Barnabus and Shelter, so take a look at
all our opportunities here. You can filter the types of roles to find the perfect one for you.

Roles of the month:

Greater Manchester Night Shelter — Volunteer

Running shelters for people who would otherwise be sleeping rough, the role may include setting up, preparing food, clearing up and packing down the shelter and socialising with guests — scrabble is always popular.
Find out more.

Manchester Cares — Social Clubs Volunteer
A community network of young professionals and older neighbours hanging out and helping one another in our rapidly changing city — social clubs offer a chance for people to share time, laughter and new experiences that help everyone to feel a part of our community.
Find out more.

This workshop will show you how you can get into community volunteering, become a Community Project Ambassador and even organise and run your own projects.
Book your place.

Virtual Careers Fair - ICAEW - November 2018 Dates

Our virtual careers fair is a must attend event for students considering a career in the profession. They will have the opportunity to hear about where a career in chartered accountancy can take them, attend live employability skills sessions and meet a range of employers – who they may not have met on campus. All of this is at the click of a button, meaning they can attend from anywhere in the world!

What’s more, to support your students in discovering the opportunities available in South East Asia as well as the UK, we have three live days to choose from!

- 22 November - live day for opportunities in the UK.

- 27 November - live day for opportunities in Indonesia and Vietnam.

- 29 November - live day for opportunities in Malaysia and Singapore.

How does it work?

Our virtual careers fair means everything is at your student’s fingertips. There will be a virtual exhibition hall with employer stands and a main auditorium that will be showing a variety of presentations and skills sessions.

Students will meet employers such as BDO, Mazars, Moore Stephens, National Audit Office, RSM, KPMG and PwC. They can enter into live chats with employers, participate in Q&As and listen to graduate trainees share their career stories live on the day. They’ll even be able to pick up a brochure and head straight to the employers websites to apply!

We’d love for as many students as possible to have the opportunity to attend our first ever virtual careers fair and meet employers they may not have seen on campus.
We’ve also got a range of digital and social assets we can share with you too. So please let your students know about the event and we would be delighted to see you there too!

Kind regards,
Tom

INVITATION: FREE LECTURE: Economic Pluralism: What is it and why does it matter - Henry Leveson-Gower TUES 20th NOV 4 - 5pm, G33

Economic Pluralism: What is it and why does it matter by
Henry Leveson-Gower, CEO of Promoting Economic Pluralism

Tuesday, 20th November 2019      4 - 5 PM
G33,  MMU Business School, All Saints Campus, Manchester, M15 6BH

In this free lecture we discuss what economics pluralism is and how it justifies its position in the economics discussion.

In particular, we assess the extent to which a lack of pluralism led to ‘group think’ in standard economics and whether this was responsible for the failure to predict the 2007/08 Global Financial Crisis and the extent to which its causes have been misattributed.

We also consider to what extent does economics really impact on policy more generally and how much pluralism can add to the discussion. Ultimately, we argue good economics must be pluralist.

Please go to https://economic-pluralism.Eventbrite.co.uk  to enrol for this event.
