There are two types of placements available within the Risk Division at Lloyds; quantitative roles, and non-quantitative management roles and you’ll be at the heart of exciting changes within a growing organisation. Non-quantitative roles may include: assurance, risk systems, programme managers, communications and engagement, operational risk and insurance risk. Modelling & quantitative roles may include: analytics, modelling, capital and stress testing, capital management, retail credit risk and market and liquidity risk.

You will report directly to the Risk Manager, whilst working closely with many other teams across Credit Risk, Products and Finance, allowing you to build good working relations and work collaboratively across teams.

Along with your line manager for support, you will also have a buddy, who will be a recent Graduate, a great ‘go to person’ and a senior mentor for your programme who can help with all the technical aspects. If you join us on the twelve month Placement programme, you will train and work alongside our first year graduates. And if you shine on the programme you may be offered the opportunity to come back as a second year Graduate.

GOVERNMENT SOCIAL RESEARCH SERVICE: 6-12 WEEK SUMMER STUDENT PLACEMENTS 2017

The Government Social Research Service (GSR) is running a scheme of summer student placements in 2017 for students undertaking a social science degree with a substantial social research component*. Applicants should be on course for, or have recently attained, a 2:1 or 1^st class degree. The scheme is not open to first year undergraduates or to second year undergraduates at Scottish universities. Students who are graduating this summer will only be eligible if they are going on to do a further degree in the autumn.

The placements will last for 6-12 weeks and will be paid: all details, including the application form with details of participating Departments, application guidance and job descriptions, are on our website (www.gov.uk/government/publications/how-to-apply-for-a-government-social-research-summer-student-placement ).

 

The opening date for receipt of applications is Thursday 23 February at 10.00am.  Applications received before that time will not be accepted.  The scheme will close as soon as we receive sufficient applications. It is therefore in all students’ interests to submit their applications as soon as possible after the opening date/time.  Students who are invited to interview will be required to provide a reference from their tutor confirming their suitability for a placement.

Please would you advertise this opportunity on your careers website and forward it to any tutors within your social science department who could bring it to the attention of their students.

*To be considered as including a substantial research methods component, applicants’ degree courses should include tuition on some or all of the following: research design, collection and analysis of quantitative and qualitative data, reporting research results, understanding of the uses, strengths and limitations of various methods, interpretation of quantitative and qualitative data. Students are not required to have undertaken research themselves as part of their degree course, but they should have gained an understanding of the principles and skills needed to design and conduct social research and to be able to critically evaluate research the methods, strategies and data used by social scientists.

The Pendulum Hotel, Manchester is just two minutes away from our Business School (The old Manchester Conference Centre) behind East is East / Ibis Hotel). We have been offered a similar package to normal but with a bit more alcohol.  

The Pioneer Suite is recently refurbished, large and spacious, and opens up on to an enclosed Garden Bar with outdoor seating area and heaters!!

If the weather is good it should be a great space to party into the evening.

Volunteers Wanted:

We are now asking for Students Volunteers to be part of a joint student/staff committee, so if you know anyone that would like to be involved then please ask them to contact myself or Sophie on 0161 247 3865 (Clare - Clare.Hart@mmu.ac.uk ) or 0161 247 3964 (Sophie - S.Little@mmu.ac.uk ).

You may know groups of students who are interested in the marketing of this Ball, planning the colour / theme, or just being on hand to promote the Ball to the students in your year.

You can be involved as much or as little as you wish.

(Please note; volunteers should be available for monthly planning meetings, and on the day itself -  Saturday, 27^th May, early afternoon - to help with decoration and ensure all is running smoothly prior to the event)

Customer Contact Agents

You’ll successfully build relationships with customers who have recently contacted us. Taking both inbound and outbound calls, you’ll help them understand if one of our products could help them, before they speak to an advisor.

Review Specialist

You’ll liaise with existing Debt Management customers in order to conduct annual reviews of their debt management plan. You will conduct a thorough fact find of our customers’ financial situation to see if the solution they currently have with us is still the best option for them. You will then provide advice to the customer on what they should do moving forward.

For all of these roles, you need to:

We also have Face-to-Face and Online Writing Consultations available to book as well as a Presentation Clinic. Writing Consultations allow students to submit up to 1,000 words of their writing to one of our tutors. They will receive feedback and a tutorial to discuss their work. The Online Consultations are fully interactive and allow the student to see and speak to their tutor. All they need is a computer that is connected to the internet and a quiet space. The Presentation Clinic is an opportunity for students to give a short 10-minute presentation in front of a small group and receive some feedback. If you feel some of your students would benefit from these services, please direct them to the Coaching for Academic English Moodle page to book a slot.
