This Summer Internship opportunity is offered over 8-12 weeks and is expected to start in June 2016. £234.50 per week (training allowance- tax and NI exempt)

An opportunity to use your data-collection, analytical and data visualisation skills to support delivery of a high quality and robust piece of research to inform future Council policy and delivery of the Manchester Strategy.

This placement opportunity will be based within the Council’s Policy, Partnerships and Research service, a team working to develop the strategy and policies needed for the City to deliver on its objectives. This includes generating the evidence base that supports the city’s economic growth ambitions.

The study will look to identify what makes the city centre such an attractive place to live by canvassing the views of city centre residents to inform the Council’s strategy for future growth of this unique residential community.

You will provide high-quality data collection, analytical and evaluation support for the delivery of the research project. Key areas of work will include:
Stage 1 – Data Collection Collecting raw survey data through completion of a questionnaire.

Stage 2 – Analytics Inputting of survey data into Excel and comparing it with spatial, demographic and other differentiating factors as supplied in order to identify relationships.

Stage 3 – Data Visualisation Presentation of the data through maps, graphs and quantitative and qualitative analysis, along with recommendations.


Development Focus

This Internship offers practical delivery of a research project and experience of the public-sector policy environment in a large local authority.

Skills required

You will be a student in Economics, Politics or Humanities, and / or interested in developing a career in public policy / research.

A strategic thinker, you will have excellent problem solving, analytical and organisational skills and the ability to prioritise a changing workload. Your written and verbal communication skills should be strong.
