Employability Monthly Update - June 2016

Welcome to your monthly faculty update on all things employability - related at MMU.

It’s June and we’re all excited for the hot months to start, but it’s the time to remember there are still plenty of opportunities and events for Business and Law students to improve their employability, reflecting the hard work being put into improving our students' professional development and career prospects in many different ways.

Most events are bookable at http://www.mmu.ac.uk/careers/events/, or http://www.mmu.ac.uk/students/futures/events.php and a separate URL is shown where this is not the case. Also, make sure that you follow @MMU_careers on twitter as we post daily on events, internships and job opportunities.

Top Story – Manchester Met Apprentices and Partners nominated for four Awards

It has been announced that Manchester Metropolitan University, our Apprentices and partner organisations have been nominated for four separate awards at the upcoming Skills for Business awards.

We are delighted to announce that the Apprentices, their employers and the team at Manchester Met are getting some recognition for the enormous amount of hard work they have put in, and the great success they have had in the past year.

The categories and nominees are as follows:

Creative Media and Digital Technology: Skills for Business Award - RealityMine in association with Manchester Metropolitan University

Large Business of the Year: Skills for Business Award - Barclays Technology in association with Manchester Metropolitan University and Mid-Cheshire college

Intermediate Apprentice of the Year - James Codd, Mc2 in association with Manchester Metropolitan University

Higher Apprentice of the Year - James Jarrard, Shaping Cloud in association with Manchester Metropolitan University

The Skills for Business Awards is an annual event celebrating the outstanding contribution that skills and learning make to businesses across Greater Manchester. Now in their third year, the awards belong to the city-region and will take place on Thursday 9 June 2016 at The Point, Lancashire County Cricket Club.

The awards have a diverse panel of judges, with representatives from Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce, learning providers in the city region, representatives from Local Government, and high profile local business leaders and stakeholders.

Best of luck to all of those nominated and we hope to be announcing their success after the award ceremony on the 9th of June.

Some of our clients include:

During the seminar we’ll tell you about some of the companies we’ve worked with, how to find these businesses and how to make an impact at interview. We’ll also talking about the challenges of working in a start-up, and how you can make sure that this will be the right environment for you.

After the seminar our experienced consultants will be on hand to answer any questions you may have, and offer tips and advice. We’ll also have a selection of free drinks (both soft and alcoholic).
